Kannur International Airport in Kerala to begin development work by next month

The government hopes to complete the construction work of the airport and almost six roads connecting it in the next two years

The Kannur International Airport work will commence with the foundation stone laying ceremony scheduled to be held on December 17, 2010. The state government has acquired nearly 1,300 acres of land so far, and remaining 700 acres will be acquired for the purpose.

Kannur Airport is the second airport to be constructed on Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) model in Kerala. The state government will have 26 per cent equity share in the venture, with public sector undertakings holding about 23 per cent share. Private equity in the company will be 49 per cent. The government hopes to complete the construction work of the airport and almost six roads connecting it in the next two years.
