Visit Golden Maharashtra, a tourism initiative conceived by Maharashtra Economic Development Council (MEDC) and supported by Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) and Government of Maharashtra to showcase Maharashtra as a global tourism destination on the 50th anniversary of the state, organized a Boating Regatta – a unique and interesting boating event for school students. The event marked the clubbing of Children’s Day with the organization’s agenda of promoting leisure tourism in Maharashtra.
“The Boating Regatta in Mumbai is another example of the potential the state holds for promoting newer avenues of tourism. Such activities on a regular basis can not only boost the economy of Maharashtra, but also generate employment,” said Mr. Vithal Kamat, President, MEDC
The key reason for holding the event is to promote leisure boating in Mumbai, the commercial capital of India. The city which is a part of India's splendid coast has a natural harbor. Despite having a rich history, the potential of waterfront leisure tourism in the region has not been exploited. Regattas, boat shows, boat racing and similar activities will help create awareness about leisure tourism and elicit participation on a mass level. The event is focused on creating long term interest and awareness which will eventually promote tourism.
“The timing is appropriate. Promoting leisure tourism on water front will also help develop an industry that will add value to the economy of India. Efforts like these can work as a platform for marine tourism operators and marketers as well as government bodies to exchange ideas and develop leisure tourism with a regulated and coordinated approach”, said Mr. Vinod Gupta, Vice President - International, MEDC.
The competition generated a lot of enthusiasm and competitive spirit among the participants, and also went on to make a special children’s day for the children. |
