Capt. C. P. Krishnan Nair, Founder Chairman of The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts passes away

Globally recognized as a hotelier extraordinaire, visionary and an environmentalist, Capt. Nair is the recipient of the Padmabhushan from the President of India

Capt. C. P. Krishnan Nair, Founder Chairman of The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts passed away peacefully with his family beside him, at the age of 92, following a brief illness. 

The last rites shall be performed Sunday, 18 May, 2014 at 4 pm at Pawan Hans crematorium in Juhu, Mumbai. 

Also, a condolence meeting is scheduled at The Leela Mumbai, Sahar, on Thursday, May 22, 2014 from 4 pm to 6 pm. 

From a young freedom fighter to an officer of the Indian Army, to pioneering the globalization of India’s textile industry, and later being a thespian of India’s hospitality industry and one of the leading luxury hotel groups, Capt. Nair’s singularly inspiring life was dedicated to the pursuit of excellence and advancement of tourism in India. 

Globally recognized as a hotelier extraordinaire, visionary and an environmentalist, Capt. Nair is the recipient of the Padmabhushan from the President of India. For his untiring efforts in environmental conservation, Capt. Nair was conferred the Global 500 Laureate Roll of Honour by the United Nations Environment Program. He was also the recipient of many prestigious accolades for his invaluable contribution to the tourism industry and for setting benchmarks for excellence in the hospitality industry. 

Capt. Nair is survived by his wife Mrs. Leela Nair, their sons – Chairman and Managing Director, Vivek Nair, and Co-Chairman and Managing Director, Dinesh Nair, their wives Lakshmi and Madhu Nair respectively, and their children.
