TripAdvisor has announced the results of its Commonwealth Games Survey 2010, conducted with travellers from two of the largest Commonwealth nations- UK and Canada. The Commonwealth Games Survey results analysed included answers from all respondents who took the survey during a 15 day period from August 31, 2010 to September 14, 2010. 635 completed responses were received during this period.
According to the company release, the Commonwealth Games Survey reveals that while majority of travellers surveyed - over 68 per cent - were aware of the Games being held in Delhi; 56.7 per cent believe that Delhi is not the right choice to host this sporting event. Nearly all respondents - 93.5 per cent will not be visiting Delhi to witness this mega sporting event. Their reasons to not travel to Delhi reveal interesting perceptions - 30 per cent are not interested in the Games; 25 per cent plan to travel to other destinations; 14 per cent are concerned about the security during the Games; seven per cent think Delhi will not offer a great experience. While rumours of corruption have tarnished the image of the Games, more respondents - 54.3 per cent were unaware/had not heard about the alleged corruption related to the Games.
According to Sharat Dhall, Managing Director, TripAdvisor India, "There has been a lot of interest in the Games in India. So, we wanted to find out what the international travelling community thought of the Delhi Games 2010, and commissioned the survey. The image of the city has taken a beating, especially in the backdrop of the government's inability to project the works it has done to make the city better."
