Tuesday 13-Jul-2010 Asian Hotels (West) Limited to develop J W Marriot in Delhi

Asian Hotels (West) Limited, which owns Hyatt Regency in Mumbai, is now going to develop a 510-room J W Marriot hotel in Delhi through its subsidiary Aria Hotels and Consultancy Services Private Limited at a total cost of Rs 700 crore.

Asian Hotels (West) Limited, which owns Hyatt Regency in Mumbai, is now going to develop a 510-room J W Marriott hotel in Delhi through its subsidiary – Aria Hotels and Consultancy Services Private Limited at a total cost of Rs 700 crore. Started in January 2010 within the hospitality district of Delhi International Airport’s ‘Aerocity’, the project is expected to complete by the end of 2012. For the same, the company has entered into a 30 year management contract with Marriott International. The company is also developing a multi-level commercial and retail complex adjoining the hotel property. For the development, Aria Hotels has entered into a JV with IL&FS Investment Managers Ltd.

Speaking on the sidelines of the press conference arranged at Hyatt Regency in Mumbai recently, Sushil Gupta, Managing Director, Aria Hotels and Asian Hotels (West) Limited said, “With the record growth of inbound and domestic tourism in first six months of 2010, the future looks bright. The signs of recovery from recession are welcoming and we are delighted to partner with IL&FS Investment Managers and Marriott International for this upcoming property. The new property is close to the new T3 terminal of Delhi International Airport and hence will help us to get good traffic. We are looking forward to venture into such deals in the future. Apart from focusing on five-star deluxe segment, we are also going to expand our mid-market brand – Clarion in India.”

According to a company release, Shahzaad Dalal, Vice Chairman, IL&FS Investment Managers Ltd said, “With the increasing demand of hotel rooms in India, the future of hospitality industry looks bright in India. This will be our sixth investment in the hospitality industry and we look forward for healthy and fruitful results.”

Delhi-based Asian Hotels had three five-Star deluxe hotels in the three metros — Hyatt Regency in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. The company then got split into three different entities in February 2010— Asian Hotels (North) owning Delhi property, Asian Hotels (West) owning Mumbai Property and the Asian Hotels (East) owning the Kolkata property.
