The ups and downs of the market in combination with the depreciating value of the Indian rupee seems to have hit the outbound travel

The figures of domestic tourism have an edge over international tourism this year. The festive season of Christmas and New Year always sees a high tourist rush for international tourist destinations. But this year domestic tourism in India ranks better.

The ups and downs of the market in combination with the depreciating value of the Indian rupee seems to have hit the outbound travel

For the festive season this year, most of the travel agencies & tour operators have got inquiries and travel bookings for various tourist destinations in India only.

According to estimates, there is a 33% decrease in international tourism this festive season as compared to last year. On a comparative note, India’s most popular tourist spots during Christmas and New Year, that is Goa and Kerala have got the maximum hits. Goa’s beach parties and the annual Sunburn festival and Kerala’s backwaters have attracted the maximum number of domestic tourist this year.

While the ever popular Goa remains a top favourite this holiday season too, those who want to experience a magical holiday without burning a hole in their pocket are opting for hill stations closer to home.

In the north the snowy terrains of Manali, Shimla, Mussoorie and Nainital in Himachal Pradesh are attracting most crowds. But still the occupancy rate at these hills station in is only about 60% - 80% this year. This trend owes to the fact that many tourist are flocking to Jammu and Kashmir after the recent peaceful atmosphere in the valley.

For all tourist visiting the north, the pleasure of enjoying themselves in the thick blanket of snow is still present.
