Aiming to explore the possibilities of local level tourism, the District Tourism Promotion council (DTPC) will assist all tourism clubs in schools, to uncover the tourism spots in interiors of Malappuram.
A financial aid of Rs 4000 will be granted to tourism clubs in each school in the district to conduct study on the tourism destinations at their respective area and to document the history of the spots.
"The students, who are members in tourism clubs will visit the tourism spots in their respective areas and will prepare detailed study reports. They can interview the local people to record thehistorical relevance of the place. On the basis of the report, the students' team will prepare a model master plan for the tourism development of the destination," said DTPC secretary K Madhu.
It is expected that the initiative of DTPC will help to give a boost to the local tourism of the district, which will be helpful to the development of interior spots. As tourism clubs are actively functioning in almost all schools, including the government schools in the district, it is expected that the fresh move will get the wide support of students.
With the help of study reports, we can easily identify the tourism spots which are unknown to many, he said. In addition to these, the work on a specific mission will also help to make the students more aware of the historical importance of their native places, source added.
