All roads it seemed led to Mount Abu during this extended Diwali vacation, which saw the hill station break the record of tourist influx in a single day. Saturday witnessed an inflow of 31,789 tourists, which was higher than the 25,775 recorded in 2009, hill station officials said.
At least 3,620 four-wheelers had entered Mount Abu on Sunday till 3 pm forcing many tourists to shell out more for parking and hotel accommodation as per a report in TOI by Pramod Panwar.
"I paid Rs 30 for parking my four-wheeler. On normal days the rate is Rs 10," said Shailesh Jaiswal from Ahmedabad.
Lila Devi, chairperson, municipal council, said, "Tourists from across Gujarat and Maharashtra have been thronging Mount Abu since October 27 the resorts and hotels are full."
Acting municipal commissioner, Mount Abu, M R Nagora, said, "We did receive complaints about excess charges for parking. We have cancelled the contract of the person involved." SDM Kumarpal Gautam said the authorities have now made arrangement for parking at Polo Ground.
Toll naka incharge Jagadish Chaurashiya said, "On Saturday we registered an inflow of 31,789 tourists to the hill station, which was a record number of passengers in a single day. The previous record was established in 2009 after 25,775 passengers visited Mount Abu."
Long queue of tourists could be seen every where including at Nakki Lake where people waited for their turn for boating. "There were so many tourists at the hill station that traffic was reduced to a snail's pace," said Manoj Dave, a tourist from Surat. |
