With most flights full and fares for domestic sector in particular high, several late travel planners are flying out of the country to save money. Tour operators said that taking a last-minute trip to far- east is cheaper currently than going to Delhi or Mahabaleshwar.

Tour operators said flight fares before Diwali have risen almost four folds. To add to it, hotel or resort costs have soared in sync with the high demand as per a report in ET by Chinmayi Shalya

Several flyers in the past two days have ditched a domestic holiday and opted for an international one instead. A Tour operator, booked at least two clients for outside India last weekend. "They wanted to go to Mahabaleshwar. However, a bungalow for one night was priced at Rs 50,000.

A Fort-based travel agent said that at least four of his clients booked themselves for Far-east as domestic destinations were packed to capacity last weekend. "bangkok is relatively cheaper as many tourists avoided going there due to the floods. However, the situation is in control now and those who delayed planning a vacation are opting for Bangkok as it stands cheaper than Singapore and Malaysia," the agent said.

Another agent said that a oneway ticket to Delhi has been almost Rs 20,000 since Friday. Even flights to Turkey and some southeast Asian destinations are selling for double the price. "In such a scenario, Dubai, Bangkok and even Jordan are cheaper holiday havens for lastminute travellers. A one-way ticket to these places has been between Rs 12,000 and Rs 15,000," he said.
