After touts, Jaipur begins crackdown on beggars & hawkers

After getting more powers with the implementation of the Rajasthan Tourism Trade (Facilitation and Regulation) Bill 2010, TAF is planning a vigorous campaign against both beggars and hawkers harassing domestic and foreign tourists at traffic junctions and tourist places.

As per a report in TOI, TAF in-charge in Jaipur Rajeev Dutta said that legal action would be taken against beggars and hawkers if caught repeatedly. "Recently, we had launched a campaign against touts in the city. Repeat offenders are being penalised," the officer said. The state government had introduced Tourism Trade (Facilitation and Regulation) Bill 2010 to give tourists some relief from touts, hawkers and beggars and the same bill kept provisions for TAF.

The law permits arrest and imprisonment of three months for such people. Habitual offenders can be imprisoned for seven years and a fine of up to Rs 1 lakh can be imposed.
