Kingfisher Airlines has been asked by the country's apex consumer forum to pay over Rs 26,000 to an Agartala-based doctor for inconveniencing him endlessly during a flight with it to Mumbai and back in 2007.

As per a PTI report, the National Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission (NCDRC) ordered the Airlines to pay Rs 26,000 to Dr J L Roy, holding the airlines guilty of rendering deficient service by taking him on a whirlwind tour, involving three landings and take-offs, instead of putting him on a direct flight to Mumbai.

"For a passenger travelling from Agartala to Mumbai in a single day, the most acceptable route will be the shortest and most direct flight available. The stop at Hyderabad can, therefore, by no stretch of imagination, be treated as a matter of facility or convenience," NCDRC bench of Justice R K Batta and Member Vinay kumar said.
