Demand for withdrawal of UDF at Trivandrum International Airport to be considered by AERAAT : MoCA

The issue of withdrawal of User Development Fee (UDF) of Rs 755 at Trivandrum International Airport was raised by P J Kurien, MP, Rajya Sabha in parliament. In response Praful Patel, Civil Aviation Minister informed that the application requesting withdrawal sent by Kerala State Government is currently under consideration of Airports Economic Regulatory Authority Appellate Tribunal (AERAAT). 
 
In May 2010, the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA) had permitted Airport Authority of India (AAI) to charge User Development Fee (UDF) of Rs 755 on every international passengers flying out of Trivandrum International Airport. The decision was supposed to be implemented after the inauguration of new international terminal at the Trivandrum International Airport. Interestingly, AAI could not implement the decision on account of protests from travel trade, passengers and petitions, requesting withdrawal of decision, sent by Kerala State government. 

Biji Eapen, National President – IATA Agents Association of India (IAAI) question the need for charging User Development Fees (UDF) at government owned airports like Trivandrum International Airport. He further added that the Association does not agree with such charges.
