Yamuna Expressway inaugrated as a part of India's golden tourist triangle

The toll charges for heavy commercial vehicles on the Expressway are over six times compared with the Delhi-Agra National Highway, points out the Indian Foundation of Transport Research and Training (IFTRT).

“For heavy commercial vehicles, the toll charge between Greater Noida to Agra is Rs 1,600, while on the NH-2, it is Rs 250,” S.P. Singh, Senior Fellow, IFTRT, said.

A drive on the same day by a light weight vehicle will attract a toll of Rs 510, with the state government approving a maximum levy of Rs 2.1 per kilometer for passenger cars, one way.

The toll will be in effect from Aug 16, after a 6-day celebratory waiver.

It promises to cut travel time between the capital city and Agra, by approx. two hours. “On the Expressway, commercial vehicles are expected to take two-and-half hours to over three hours between Greater Noida and Agra. On the National Highway, the time taken is between three-and-half hours and four hours,” he added.

However, tourist traffic East Delhi, NOIDA, Ghaziabad is expected to take the Yamuna Expressway for Agra, a top tourist destination. It showed a potential for 20,000-40,000 vehicles per day, falling in the golden triangle of tourism.

Jaypee Group deputy chairman, Manoj Gaur, also promised a 100-bed hospital under the Yamuna Expressway Social Upliftment Trust at the inaugration.
