World Travel Market (WTM) gets underway in London

World Tourism Awards Presented at World Travel Market; Indigo Airlines has also won the prestigious World Travel Market Globe Award

AS the World Travel Market (WTM), a travel trade exhibition, opened Monday in Excel, London, the mood was that of celebration as fears over the global economy, particularly the Euro zone crisis, affecting the performance of tourism for the year 2012 were allayed by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO).

In a recent report by its agency, the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), UNWTO reassured that global tourism was still robust and that forecast expectation would be achieved.

Also the 2012 World Tourism Awards were presented in a ceremony at World Travel Market, ExCeL Centre, London, on Monday 5th November 2012

The 2012 winners are: Kuoni Travel, Lorca City, Gianluca Picone, R&D Manager of the Royal Continental Hotel Naples, Pousada do Toque, Abreu Travel Agency, UTS Group, Indigo Airlines, Priceline.com, Ctrip.com International Ltd, J. Stephen Perry, President and CEO of the New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau, Surjit S Babra, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of SkyLink Travel Group and Mr Selim El Zyr, co-founder, president and CEO at Rotana Group of Hotels.

Jorie Butler Kent, Vice Chairman, Abercrombie & Kent and Founder & President, Abercrombie & Kent Philanthropy; Oman Sail; and the City of New Orleans were presented with the 2012 World Tourism Award.

This year the three Award recipients were honored for their dedication to sustainable tourism, preservation of natural and cultural heritage as well as forging tourism partnerships to overcome challenging times.
