The Maharashtra State Agro and Rural Tourism Cooperative Federation (MART) has announced this year's awards for agro and rural tourism. The awards were presented on Thursday on the occasion of world agri tourism day which is observed on May 16.
Mart president Babasaheb Barate in a statement said there are lot of employment opportunities in the tourism sector, particularly in rural areas where agro tourism is becoming popular. The advantage in Maharashtra is that the state has a lot of agricultural resources and green cover.
Tourists from urban areas enjoy agro and rural tourism. This, in a way, helps in development of rural areas. The award presentation function was held at the Gagangiri agro tourism centre at Pimprad in Phaltan tehsil of Satara district. MART said that the award presentation function is being held on a small scale because of the severe drought in the state. Mart has also decided to provide help in drought affected areas.
