Orissa Minister Tourism and Culture Maheswar Mohanty said that the flight withdrawal would adversely affect the tourism sector in the State as people coming from these two metropolises to see heritage sites would certainly not be able to reach here.
Tourism and Culture Department Principal Secretary Ashok Kumar Tripathy also echoed the same concern. Hotel and Restaurant Association of Odisha (HRAO) protested the withdrawal of flights saying that it would not only hamper tourism but also trade and industry in the State.
\“We want immediate restoration of the two Air India flights connecting Bhubaneswar with Kolkata and Chennai. The decision to withdraw the flights has been taken just before the start of the tourist season,” HRAO chairman JK Mohanty told reporters here.
Mohanty said he had sent a memorandum to the Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh seeking restoration of the AI flights urgently.
“I have also requested him to take immediate steps to restore the flights from Bhubaneswar to Bangalore, Raipur and Varanasi which had been withdrawn earlier,” he said.
