Inaugurating the eco-tourism park at Rajarhat-New Town, chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday said that it would attract visitors not only from across the state and the country but also abroad.

“We human beings love nature. Rapid urbanisation has led to mushrooming of high-rise buildings in the cities. Today, we do not even get to hear the chirping of the birds because we are living in concrete jungles. But our heart yearn for the bliss of nature: for rivers and trees,” she added.

Ms Banerjee christened the eco-tourism park as Prakriti Tirtha (Nature Pilgrimage). Urban development minister Firhad Hakim said that spread over 480 acres with a 200-acre large jheel, the eco-tourism park is the largest park of its kind in the country. The eco-tourism park will house a huge rose garden with large varieties of rose plants and a musical fountain.
