W hotel, the luxury boutique hotel brand of Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide is to make it's debut in India at Mumbai. The W Mumbai project is expected to be completed over the next three years.

Starwood Hotels and Resorts managing director India and regional vice-president South Asia Dilip Puri said, “Located in bustling south central Mumbai where modern architecture intertwines with colonial cultural monuments, W Mumbai will introduce its world renowned lifestyle hotel concept to one of India’s hippest cities. W Mumbai is being developed on approximately 3 acres of land and is expected to open by end 2015.”

"Delhi-NCR, Bangalore, Goa and Kerala are targets for us. We currently have a W Hotel under development in Noida, and in north Goa, besides Mumbai. As W and St Regis make their foray into India, Starwood will have eight of its nine brands present in India.”

W Mumbai will form a part of the Namaste Tower, a proposed skycraper designed by WS Atkins. Resembling the gesture of two folded hands, the 55-storey building will overlook the Mahalaxmi race course as per a report in Financial Express.

Commenting on the opportune time for W hotels to enter India, Puri said, "We believe this is the perfect time for W Hotels to enter India, specifically Mumbai, a city with vibrant energy and strong association with fashion and Bollywood. Luxury in India has existed in its traditional form, but with the entry of W, there is an opportunity to introduce luxury in its modern and trend-setting sense."
