The US nationals intending to visit India are not required to produce Birth Certificate while applying for Indian Visa any more. The Ministry of External Affairs has issued a direction to the Indian Missions / Posts in USA to this effect.
With 8,27,140 tourist arrivals, during the year 2009, USA was the number one tourist generating market for India (Source: MR Division, MOT). However, service providers in the Travel Trade Sector have been representing for some time for waiving off the provision related to submission of Birth Certificate at the time of application for Indian Visa for the US nationals. This requirement of the Indian Missions in the US was having an adverse impact on the sector and discouraging tourists.
