US carrier United Airlines (UA), which completed five years of operations here, today said it owes its success in India, a fast-growing civil aviation market, to the partnerships it has forged with customers since its entry in the country in 2005.
“We owe our success to the important partnerships we have built with trade and corporate customers, as well as the hard work and dedication of our local sales and operations teams,” said Robert Humphries, Sales Managing Director (India, Middle East and Africa), United Airlines.
He was speaking at an event organised here to celebrate the airline’s fifth anniversary of its service between Mumbai and New York, a statement said today. UA started its Mumbai—New York/Newark Liberty International Airport daily non-stop service on October 2, 2007 and that from New Delhi to New York in 2005. United and its subsidiary United Express operate an average of 5,574 flights a day to 377 airports on six continents from its hubs in Chicago, Cleveland, Denver, Guam, Houston, Los Angeles, New York/Newark, San Francisco, Tokyo and Washington.
In 2011, United carried more traffic than any other airline in the world, and operated more than 2 million flights carrying 142 million passengers. The US carrier operates nearly 700 mainline aircraft and has orders for over 270 new deliveries through 2022, including 50 Dreamliners. In March this year, ‘Fortune’ magazine rated UA the most admired airline on its annual airline industry list of the world’s most admired companies.
