A light and sound show which will probably be held at one of the ghats is going to be another tourist attraction in Varanasi. According to UP Tourism deputy director Avinash Mishra, the project for light and sound show has been proposed under the priority projects of the tourism department marked by central government in 2013-2014.

The final decision on the project will be taken in a meeting in Lucknow which will be held to finalise the priority projects on Tuesday. "The show will be based on spiritual themes and will probably be performed at Asi ghat," informed Mishra.

Responding to the growing demands for affirmative action to promote heritage sites in the state, chief minister AkhileshYadav said the government is working on a comprehensive model for preserving and promoting the state's heritage. "We will come up with a proper policy in this regard soon," he said while addressing a seminar on heritage tourism potential in UP here on Sunday.

Maharaja Gaj Singh of Jodhpur, who was the guest of honor, said, "It's undeniable that UP has immense potential for heritage tourism. I don't think that there is any other place in India with such diversely rich royal heritage. But tourism becomes a reality only when chief ministers lead the project." Singh, who is also the president of Indian Heritage Hotel Association, said that in places where heritage has become a part of the tourism industry, the entire area has benefitted. "Besides generating employment for all, heritage tourism instills a sense of pride among the people by making them conscious of their past," he said.

President of UP Heritage Hotels Association and Congress MP Sanjay Singh showed some slides on the potential properties in the state. He also urged the government to finalise its tourism policy soon to let the business take off. The official website -- www.uphha.org -- of the association was also inaugurated.
