UK, Thailand and US are top destinations searched by Indians: Report

The year gone by has provided useful insights into the travel preferences of Indians as per research compiled by a travel search site.  The UK for instance, emerged as the top international destination searched by Indians in 2012 followed by Thailand and the US.  Similarly, Britain with its love for the sun, curry and quest for a spiritual experience, recorded the highest number of searches to India.  Other countries with a fondness for warmer locales such as Russia, the US and Germany also recorded the highest number of searches to India. 

The UK was also the international destination of choice for Indian couples with most couples searching for flights to the country in 2012 followed by Thailand, the US and UAE. The data also reveals that couples are becoming more explorative in nature by opting to holiday in Nepal, Sri Lanka and Russia.   Short haul destinations as usual were a winner with families with the UAE recording the highest number of flight searches from India followed by Thailand in 2012.   

The travel trends report compiled by Skyscanner sheds light on interesting facets of travel such as Indians take their vacation time seriously by opting to spend a good number of days away while on holiday (approx. over 10 days) to rejuvenate and recharge themselves.  Indonesia in comparison is the country with the shortest average length of trip around 4.6 days.

The report indicated that Indian travellers adopted a relaxed approach when planning a holiday, preferring not to book in advance.  For instance, the research data reveals that Indians plan their holidays around 39 days in advance as compared to other Asian Countries such as Taiwan which book 64 days in advance and South Korea which books around 51 days in advance. Globally, some destinations believe in advance planning with destinations such as Australia and New Zealand choosing to book their travel 72 days in advance respectively.
