As the rupee declined against the pound, the cost of travelling to UK has shot up considerably for the Indian tourists. This is further compunded by the increase in visa fees.
From November onwards, the UK government wants to impose a new refundable deposit of GBP 3,000 (or Rs 2.76 lakh at the rate Rs 92 per pound) for six-month visit from India and five other high-risk nations. This will especially impact people who go to the UK to visit children such as parents or senior citizens or contract workers.
Travel costs to the UK have already been going up. Since April, the visa costs have been hiked to Rs 6,000 (from Rs 4,200 earlier) whereas a same-day visa costs Rs 50,000.
