In what may hit the ailing Kingfisher’s revenues by as much as 60-70 per cent, a majority of travel agentshave stopped taking bookings for the airline.

Iata has issued a travel advisory to the travel agents, including associations like Travel Agents Association of India (Taai) and Travel Agents Federation of India (Tafi), asking them not to take any bookings for Kingfisher. The advisory, however, allows agents and airlines to engage directly with the carrier in their individual capacity.

Even as the airline maintained that it has made alternative arrangements to ensure continuous bookings of its tickets through leading travel partners, the companies are far from willing to do so.

The Vijay Mallya-led carrier sells over 80 per cent of its tickets through travel agents. The carrier had a market share of 11.3 per cent and a seat factor of over 70 per cent in January. According to a travel expert, the load factors would come down significantly even for its existing flights.
