Traditional boat race organised on Lake Rudrasagar in Tripura to boost tourism

This competition is organized in the month of October every year and many teams participate in it. Neermahal festival is an event in which people participate to enjoy and not to win or lose.

Keen to exploit the tourism potential of Sehapihijal district, the Department of Tourism in in the state of Tripura recently organised a traditional boat race on Lake Rudrasagar. Located 55 kilometers south of Agartala, the boat race forms one of the major tourist attractions of the region.

The boat festival takes place in the month of October and several teams participate. The forefathers of the fishermen, who once migrated from the banks of the River Titas in present day Bangladesh, and settled here, started this event.

It is a ritual and one of the most awaited events of the calendar. "This festival is related with tourism since in India there are only two water palaces out of which one is the Neermahal located in Sepahijala district of Tripura. This palace was created by Maharaja in the mid of Rudrasagar lake and tourist from different locations across the country visit the palace.
