Police are looking for a couple, who ran a travel agency in Mogappair, for cheating a group of traders from Old Washermenpet after promising to organize a trip to Goa for them.
The traders had planned to go on a trip to Goa with their families to celebrate the founding of their association. They had paid the travel agency 9.25 lakh for 150 people. The agency failed to book hotel rooms and tickets as per a TOI report.
The agents promised to return the money but didn't do that either. The traders believed the agency owner Jothilakshmi since she issued a cheque for a portion of the amount. She promised to return the rest in cash before the second week of March. However, the cheque bounced.
The traders tried to reach Jothilakshmi, but she avoided them. A member of the association said, "We boarded the train to Goa on February 15. A guide, Anwar, assigned by the travel agency, accompanied us. When we reached Goa, the hotel said rooms had not been booked. We had to pay 3.25 lakh to the hotel. Later, we had another shock when there were no tickets for our return journey. When we approached Jothilakshmi, she said it was her fault and promised to return our money."
