Rain-affected tourism industry in hill stations across Himachal Pradesh is slowly returning to normalcy as monsoon clouds hovering over the mountains have started thinning out and tourists have once again started visiting mountains without any fear.
Though tourism in the state suffered losses worth crores of rupees following devastation during the monsoon season, especially in Kinnaur district, conditions are changing very fast now. Hotels in Shimla, Manali, Dalhousie and Dharamshala have good amount of advance bookings for October and November and booking are continuing for December to February as well as per a report in TOI.
Another big relief for tourism in the state has been resumption of flights to Kullu. Air India has decided to resume its daily flight service from September 16. To attract more customers, hotels are offering up to 50% discounts on all services. Chandra Sharma, another hotelier from Shimla, said 40% discounts would be allowed on hotel stay till Christmas and New Year week.
Meanwhile, happy after relief from the Supreme Court to cancel the orders of state high court to put a ban on vehicles older than four years on the Manali-Rohtang road and HP government's decision not to build ropeway to Rohtang Pass, Him-Aanchal Taxi Operators Union has decided not to increase taxi fare. "We are still charging two-year-old fares from tourists. We have suffered losses this monsoon, but we will not increase fares until it becomes necessary," said Puran Chand, president of the union.
