Tourist hub Paharganj, which attracts many Israelis and has restaurants serving Israeli cuisine, was given an additional layer of security Monday night after the bomb attack on an Israel Embassy car.

At least a 100 police personnel were patrolling the area and barricades were set up at the entrance to the Main Bazar. “We are checking every car and the luggage of the passengers. Auto-rickshaws running empty and hawkers who don’t work in the Main Bazar are not allowed inside,” a policeman said.

Security was stepped up at the Jewish prayer home Chabad House and routine checks at all hotels were stricter.

Additional DCP, Central Zone, Aslam Khan said, “One Quick Reaction Team (QRT) has been deployed in the area. Ten officers will be present on rooftops and others will patrol the area on bikes. We will do everything we can.”

Israeli tourists were largely unconcerned. Said Nitzan Himelfarv (25), “I think Delhi is a safe area to be in compared to other places I have visited recently... all I can pray for is that it won’t happen again and that no person is seriously injured. I should also call my mother and tell her I’m ok because she might be worried.”

Evyl Grof (45) said, “Terror attacks happen in Israel too and it is very sad but we’re used to them now.”
