state governments of Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha mulling plans to collaborate on a joint project to develop a tourism circuit from Araku to Jagdalpur via Koraput.
Developing this circuit would entail building luxury resorts, repairing roads, introducing public transport services, route indication signboards and tour packages, opening kiosks and handicraft centres for travel enthusiasts it is learnt. Officials of the three states are expected to commence discussions on the project from the middle of January as per a TOI report.
The project aims to extend the tour scope of travellers from Araku towards Odisha and Chhattisgarh and at the same time provide a channel to Vizagites to unwind at interesting scenic spots close to Araku in addition to encouraging people from adjacent districts of Chhattisgarh and Odisha to drop in at Vizag-Araku and give a fillip to the tourism sector in AP.
Currently, around 20 per cent of tourists visiting Araku avail of train service to take a trip to the forests and famous waterfalls of Jagdalpur, situated between 150-200 kms from Araku. Officials are hopeful that the tourist inflow from Araku to Jagdalpur will go up to about 60 per cent when the new circuit is developed.
