Members of Tourist First, a project for safe and pleasant tourism, held a meeting with the Mumbai police and officials of the BMC, Mumbai port trust, Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) and archaeology department at the Royal Bombay Yacht Club on Tuesday to discuss ways to improve the overall experience of visitors at the Gateway of India.

The iconic Gateway of India, which sees tourists from various origins, is the major point of discussion at the meeting. The project aims at improving the overall experience of tourists at the popular landmark by providing tourist information cells and making arrangements for strict surveillance of the area.

Photo galleries inside the monument, light and sound programmes, introduction of decorative boats and special VIP services will be introduced to attract more tourists.

The project has been conceptualized by additional commissioner of police Krishna Prakash and is being coordinated by Nilesh Kumar, CEO of N Kumar Associates International.

“Complete CCTV coverage, access control, checking, frisking, and scanning of bags of tourists and staff of the jetties will be done to ensure proper security,” said Krishan Prakash.
