The tourism ministry on Wednesday launched a scheme for providing driving skills and etiquette training to poor men to create employable skills in tourism and hospitality sector.

The scheme is open to men in the age group of 18-28 years who have passed Class 10 and are from below poverty line families. It is part of the ministry’s larger initiative ‘Hunar Se Rozgaar’ – employment from skills.

According to the ministry, tourism is expected to emerge as a key economic driver in the coming years and driving as an avocation has large employment potential. The training will have two distinct aspects – driving skills and etiquette training.

The scheme will be implemented by the state governments, which will select the driving schools. The tourism ministry will bear the cost of training.
