The Union ministry of tourism will soon add new facilities in Hotel Brahmaputra Ashok in Guwahati.The Assam government has submitted proposals worth Rs 55 Crore to the ministry for development of at least eight tourist destinations in the state .
In Brahmaputra Ashok, India Tourism Development Corporation has 51% stake while Assam government has 49%.
Union minister of state for tourism Sultan Ahmed who was on a two-day visit to Guwahati, told ET."We will add a new convention centre in Hotel Brahmaputra Ashok. We will pump in around Rs 4 Crore for development of the centre."
Mr.Ahmed on Friday met chief minister Tarun Gogoi and state tourism minister Rocky-bul Hussain.He added:" We will see what other revamping can be done in the hotel. I have discussed the issue of Guwahati – Bangkok with the chief minister. I will take up with the civil aviation ministry the issue of resumption and getting passengers for the flight."
The minister informed: "We have started helicopter tourism in Arunachal Pradesh .We are positioning the North East as a destination for rural, eco and wildlife tourism in both domestic and international circuits ."
MR Ahmed said," I have requested the Assam government to organize a conference of tour operator from different places of the country. The operators have to know beforehand about different festivals that are being held here so that they can include it in their itinerary."
