Tourism inflow improves in Karnataka

Bangalore will see an addition of 9400 rooms in the next five to six years. Most of the upcoming supply will be developed in the luxury, midscale and budget categories

Karnataka witnessed an increase in the number of tourists visiting the state in the previous quarter said tourism minister BS Anand Singh at a function held as part of International Tourism Day on Thursday The minister said that in the year 2011.

8.86 crore tourists visited state while this year more than six crore tourists have visited the state already Replying to a question on hefty tax for vehicles entering the state the minister said the state was losing a lot of tourists and thus revenue to the high tax.

The minister added that Jungle Lodges and Resorts Ltd would come out with lodges at four more places like Pilikula near Mangalore Gokarna Belgaum and near Jog falls To attract more tourists the state tourism development corporation is providing packaged tours to tourists from northern parts of the country

Principal secretary of the tourism department G Latha Krishna Rao said that celebration would be a low-key affair this time as the state is facing severe drought However to attract more tourists the department has conducted road shows in several northern states.

We have conducted road shows in Kolkata Gujarat Amritsar and other areas to attract people from other parts of the country KSTDC is providing packaged tours to tourists visiting the state during the time of Dasara Tour packages include visit to prominent temples in the state including Chamundeshwari temple in Mysore Mookambika temple in Kollur and others We are hoping for good number of tourists from West Bengal.

Meanwhile, Hotel reservations in Bangalore recorded a marginal drop in first half of 2012 despite a substantial addition of rooms.The reservations  dropped to 57% over 2011, impacting the average room rate, which was down by 15%, says Cushman and Wakefield, a real estate property consultancy firm in its latest report titled Indian Hospitality Story 2012 & Beyond.
