Karnataka Tourism Minister R. V. Deshpande who was in Belgaum for short duration before proceeding to his hometown Haliyal said, "Tourism can generate large revenue and job opportunity in state. For this, tourist places should be improved with all required facilities like proper roads, transportation and other basic facilities for the tourist. Tourism department lacks proper human resource and infrastructure facilities.

During SM Krishna regime, we had prepared comprehensive report about how tourism should be developed in state, but the successive government failed to take it up". Though the tourism minister was in the district, there were no tourism officials from Belgaum.
He also called upon the public to give their opinions and views to improve tourism centres in the state. The minister will be having review meeting with the officials of both higher education and tourism department in Bangalore on May 22.
