Tourism Malaysia appoints Zulkifli Mohamed as Deputy Director, Tourism Malaysia, Mumbai

Tourism Malaysia today announced the appointment of Zulkifli Mohamed as Deputy Director for its Indian operations. Based in Mumbai, Zulkifli will look after marketing and promotion activities for Tourism Malaysia, with a concentrated focus on the Indian market. In this capacity, he will report to the Director, Tourism Malaysia, Mr. Manoharan Periasamy.

Tourism Malaysia today announced the appointment of Zulkifli Mohamed as Deputy Director for its Indian operations. Based in Mumbai, Zulkifli will look after marketing and promotion activities for Tourism Malaysia, with a concentrated focus on the Indian market. In this capacity, he will report to the Director, Tourism Malaysia, Mr. Manoharan Periasamy.

A dynamic, result-oriented professional, Zulkiflibrings to his post considerable experience in marketing and promotions, and he has spent a significant portion of his career with Tourism Malaysia. This will stand him in good stead as he sets down his strategic growth plans for growing Indian tourism figures to Malaysia. His agenda is aimed at garnering enhanced, measurable results within specific timeframes, especially with regard to increasing number of arrivals and length of stay.

When asked about his plans for the future, Zulkifli said: “The days ahead are very challenging and exciting for me. There is tremendous potential in the Indian travel and tourism market for Malaysia, and we aim to stay top-of-mind with our audiences through innovative and distinctive marketing programs. India has always been a crucial source market for Malaysia, and our efforts will focus on growing the special relationship we share with India.”

Zulkifli is an alumnus of Putra University Malaysia, where he did his Honours in Forestry and majored in Parks & Recreation Management. His career commenced at the Wet World Shah Alam where he was Operations Officer, followed by a stint as Assistant Director – Operations at Paya Indah Wetlands. He joined Tourism Malaysia in 2003 as Assistant Directorwith the Industry Development Division and was tasked with the responsibility ofmarketing and promoting eco-tourism products, homestays and coordinating the Malaysia Tourism Awards Night.

After a long, successful stint in this position, he was transferred to the Southeast Asia Division to oversee the promotion of Tourism Malaysia in Singapore, Indonesia and Brunei. Later, he was moved back to Industry Development to strengthen the marketing and promotion of Malaysia’s eco-tourism industry. He has organised several events and exhibitions, and participated in the promotion of niche products, including promoting Malaysia at the British Birdwatching Fair in London in 2009 and 2010. He has also represented Malaysia at the Multi Country Study Mission on Agro-Tourism in Taiwan, and presented a paper at the Multi Country Observational Study Mission on Community Based Eco-tourism Development and Management, Kathmandu Nepal in 2009.
