The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) plans to organise at least six major events in the second half of the year to boost domestic and international tourism.
The events in the pipeline are Amazing Thailand Grand Sale, World Sport Destination Expo, HM the King's Seventh Cycle Birthday Anniversary, Royal Flora Ratchaphruek, Thailand: Asia Golf Hub, and the Stopover Bangkok Campaign.
The authority said Amazing Thailand Grand Sale would start next Wednesday and run until August 15. More than 15,000 shops and restaurants throughout the counฌtry will offer discounts of up to 80 per cent. The event hopes to lure tourists from Southeast Asia, Japan and China back to Thailand.
TAT governor Suraphon Svetasreni said all the events would help boost both the domestic market and international arrivals for the remaining months of this year. He said Thailand exceeded its target last year, with 15.9 million visitors despite many problems. Arrivals have grown by 10 per cent every month since January. The Tourism and Sports Ministry reported that 8.2 million arrivals during the first five months, or 24.3percent growth over the same time last year.
