Alka Jha, an official of the Singapore-based Tiger Airways, visited Madurai on Thursday and interacted with members of theTamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industryhere. She came to the city following an invitation sent by the chamber to discuss the feasibility of direct air connectivity from Madurai to Singapore.
During the interaction, the office-bearers of chamber, senior president, S Rethinavelu explained to the visiting official about the great potential Madurai and southern districts have with passenger traffic between Madurai and Singapore.
They suggested that before introducing regular services, for which the approval of the civil aviation minister may be delayed, Tiger Airwaysmay seek the approval of the ministry for operating in the sector immediately on a temporary seat rights allotment basis, by allotting specified number of seats per week.
