Thailand, Egypt & Taiwan clocks growth from India Market, Sri Lanka too, bets big on India

Registers 26.3, 25 & 35 percent growth respectively as compared to Jan-Nov period last year.

Thailand recorded an increased 12.6 per cent year-on-year growth during the first 11 months of 2010 despite multiple protests and incidents in the country. India became Thailand’s fastest growing market for tourists this year. Between January – November 2010, 690,374 Indians visited Thailand, a growth of 26.3 per cent from the same period in 2009 from India. According to Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Thailand is receiving increased attention in the Indian market, especially among tour operators and niche market segments like wedding, honeymoon and Bollywood. 

Egypt as a destination is fast gaining popularity in the Indian market, which is evident from the handsome growth it has registered from 2009 onwards till now. Egyptian Tourism Board (ETO) figures show a 25 per cent growth in the number of Indian tourists visiting Egypt over the last year. Egypt has hosted 11,478 Indian tourists in October 2010, an increase of 17.5 per cent compared to 9768 tourists in Oct 2009. In fact it has hosted 89,088 Indian tourists during Jan – Oct 2010, registering an increase of 34 per cent compared to 66,469 tourists hosted during the same period last year.
