Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) on Saturday said that terror attacksin Europe has cast a shadow on the Indian tourism sectorresulting in decline of the number of foreign tourists visiting the country.
Briefing newspersons here, IATO national president Pronab Sarkar said that the terror attacks in France and Belgium led to numerous cancellations made by tourists from the continent. "Europe impact is very prominent. We had cancellations of pre-bookings for two months after the Paris attack. Tourists, who had made advanced bookings from Scandinavian countries cancelled their trips following an advisory issued in the wake terrorist attacks at Belgium," he said.
Tour operators handling inbound tourists in India suffered losses by anywhere between 15 per cent and 25 per cent due to the sudden drop of foreign visitors particularly from the European countries, he added.
