The Taiwan Tourism Bureau’s Educational Seminar dedicated to the travel fraternity that was held on March 20, 2012, at the Four Seasons Hotel in Mumbai was a well-attended and much appreciated event. The aim of the seminar was to educate the travel agents and update their knowledge about Taiwan; the products it has to offer; USPs of the destination; how it is perfect for the Indian market and how it is poised to become the most-visited outbound destination from India.

The morning's proceedings were kicked off by Noel Saxena of Taiwan Tourism Bureau Representation Office in India who warmly welcomed all the attendees and regaled them with a fun-filled and informative presentation on what differentiates Taiwan as a destination. This was followed by a talk by CG Johnson of Cathay Pacific Airlines who talked of the airline’s excellent connectivity from India to two hubs of Taiwan – Taipei and Kaohsiung.

Representatives of Good Times Vacation talked of ideal 6/7-night itineraries in Taiwan and the easy availability of Indian food in all major cities of Taiwan, and in particular of Jain and Gujarati meals. The excellent infrastructure of Taiwan’s hotels, the wonderful open views from the Taipei 101 and the hot springs which are a delight to visit were also elucidated upon. Also the virtues of Taiwan as the ideal MICE destination thanks to its world-class facilities were also described at length.

Sonreet Grewal Virk of Hyatt Hotels was next in line to present the distinctive features of the Grand Hyatt hotel; and how it is a perfect place to stay while in Taipei as it’s located right next to a busy shopping and nightlife district and is very close to the iconic building, Taipei 101.

To showcase the strong support to the outbound travel fraternity, Taiwan Tourism had invited OTOAI (Outbound Travel Operators Association of India) to share the platform at the Seminar. This acted as the official first event of the OTOAI’s Western Chapter and their introduction to the travel fraternity of Mumbai. Mahinder Vakharia, General Secretary, Western Chapter, OTOAI and MD Pathfinders, Ahmedabad, spoke on the occasion on the need for greater collaboration between NTOs and the travel fraternity to increase the growth of the outbound market and expose India to fresher travel products and upcoming destinations such as Taiwan.

On behalf of OTOAI, Vakharia also thanked the Taiwan Tourism Board for the platform that was offered to the organization and said that they were dedicated to fostering strong ties between Taiwan and OTOAI and promoting Taiwan as a destination among all its members.
