The Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI), in a move to bring relief to the travel agent community, today announced that the implementation of the weekly payment system has been deferred till 30th June, 2013.

Until then, the fortnightly payment system will continue. This information was shared by Mr Iqbal Mulla, President of TAAI. Earlier in 2011, the airlines, through a vote during the Passenger & Agency (PA) Conference in Singapore, mandated the implementation of weekly period remittance in India, effective July 1, 2012.

But due to several representations by TAAI at APJC, India and the national airline Air India and IATA finally considered the request and deferred this implementation to November 1, 2012. In its previous announcement of deferment, IATA had mentioned that the weekly settlement system would be implemented from November 1, 2012.

Through TAAI’s constant attempts, there was a unanimous vote by APJC, India and a revised ‘remittance cycle’ was agreed upon. This was sent to the PA Conference that was scheduled to be held from October 14-16, 2012 in Abu Dhabi. Mr. Sunil Kumar, Hon Secretary General of TAAI was present there along with the support of UFTAA board and participated in the TA Caucus meeting held on October 14, 2012.

Others who supported the deferment whole-heartedly include the APJC Chairman, Mr. Pankaj Srivastava from Air India, IATA India officials and the UFTAA board. Commenting on this Mr. Mulla said, “It is due to our constant struggle and efforts that the weekly remittance is being postponed to December 31, 2013. We have always believed in supporting the agent fraternity and strived towards benefiting the community through fair practices.
