Special tourist trains may be introduced to boost tourism in North East India

In a move expected to boost inflow of tourists in the Northeast, the government is considering running special tourist trains to unexplored destinations. 

A wide range of ideas to boost tourism in the Northeastern states are under discussion as the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) steps up its efforts to partner state tourism bodies as per a report in Economic Times.

Rajen Gohain, minister of state for railways chaired a meeting of senior IRCTC and railway officials, state tourism secretaries and other officers of state tourism directorates and corporations on joint promotion of tourism and other support that the IRCTC could provide.
