After moderate to heavy snowfall in the mountain regions, all snow lovers have thronged to the mountains to have a first hand feeling of fresh snow. The professionals and the winter sports enthusiasts have to wait for a long time to enjoy the thrills of skiing and snowboarding.
Indian Institute of Skiing & Mountaineering (IISM) under the Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India, located at Gulmarg conducts winter sports every year to promote adventure and winter tourism in the country.
This Institute is always a pioneer to start winter courses in the country. As per its tradition the Institute started its first ski course at Gulmarg today.
As per the Institute report more than 70 students have joined its first ski course from various parts of the country. No other school has yet started these activities of skiing training in the country.
Gulmarg is a world renowned ski resort which gets a very good quality of powder snow. Lovers of back country skiing and heli-skiers throng Gulmarg every winter to enjoy long runs of fresh powder skiing. IISM conducts 06 ski courses of 2 weeks each starting from X-Mass to Mid March every year.
Institute has a state of the art new building which is centrally heated and fully equipped to train more than 100 skiers at a time.
It is headed by Col JS Dhillon a renowned mountaineer and skier of the country who was earlier principal of famous MHI Darjeeling. It also rents out skiing equipment to tourists who stay in hotels and come to enjoy their holidays.
Gulmarg has more than 1200 beds ranging from budget hotels to five start resort in the serene environments of Pir Panjal Mountains. IISM courses are in so much of demand that all courses of the Institute get booked as soon as it opens its booking on the website.
