Come February, Mumbaikars, especially music lovers, will experience a different kind of blessing from Siddhivinayaka: Maghi Mahotsav – a 6-day musical extravaganza. This music fest will feature an eclectic line-up of musicians, singers and groups that have a massive fan following around the world. Hence, it would be a real treat, a blessing, no less, from Shree Siddhivinayaka Ganapati, the presiding deity at Prabhadevi.
The festival would include the Siddhivinayaka Rath Yatra and is organized by the Siddhivinayaka Ganapti Temple Trust as part of the annual Maghi Chaturthi celebrations. The fest kicks-off on 11th February 2013 with Trilok Gurtu, world renowned percussionist who has performed and collaborated with some of the world’s top jazz and fusion bands.
The opening day line-up also includes top-notch singer Shankar Mahadevan, flautist Rakesh Chaurasia and percssionist Rajeev Mahavir. Day 2’s performance would be exclusively for the giant in classical gayaki Pt Ulhas Kashalkar. Day 3 is for Rath Yatra; while day 4 would feature singer Anup Jalota. Day 5 will have performances by singer Runa Rizvi, percussionist Shivamani and Vishal. Taal Inc will give Mumbaikars a taste of world-music with their unique style on day 6. The last day, i.e. 17th Feb will showcase the innovative classical keyboardist Abhijit Pohankar and singer Roopkumar Rathod.
Reviving the ancient tradition of Sangeet Seva, Maghi Mahotsav is slated to become part of Mumbai’s cultural event calendar. Temple trustees regard this fest simply as a humble musical offering to Siddhivinayaka Ganapati. The venue for the performances is the open-air Nardulla Tank Maidan, Prabhadevi which is next to the famous temple. The production values will be on par with professional standards. The set is designed by Mr. Sanjay Dabhade of Zero hour.
