Shimla to impose Rs 400 in toll tax, entry tax and green tax from June 1

All outside vehicles entering Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC) areas would be charged Green Tax of Rs 200 for small vehicles, Rs 300 for utility and large vehicles and Rs 500 from trucks

With Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC) all set to impose Green Tax from June 1 on the pattern of Manali, the tourists and other visitors coming to Shimla from Delhi and adjoining areas would have to shell out about Rs 400 in toll tax, entry tax and green tax. 

The four toll plazas at Panipat, Karnal, Zirakpur and Pinjore are charging Rs 167 as toll tax while Himachal Pradesh government has imposed entry tax of Rs 30 for small private vehicles and SMC would charge Rs 200 as green tax from June 1 next.

The Corporation had decided to impose Green Tax and floated tenders but no bidder came forward and it invited fresh bids to outsource collection of tax and finally accepted the bid of VK Group of Patiala.
