The Seychelles Tourism Board in association with Air Seychelles along with a delegation of private sector partners from the islands conducted a road show in Mumbai, India, one day after the launch of the much-awaited direct flight between the two countries.

The inaugural flight which landed in Mumbai a little bit after 3 o’clock in the morning on December 3 was welcomed by the symbolic water cannon which was then followed by a small cake-cutting ceremony at the airport. The Chief executive Officer of the Seychelles Tourism Board, Ms. Sherin Naiken, was among the important dignitaries who accompanied Mr. Manoj Papa, the Chief Executive Officer of Air Seychelles, for this inaugural launch. The high-level delegation was also accompanied by Mr. Freddy Kakaria, Chairman of the Hospitality and Tourism Association, members of the travel trade, as well as members of the Indian business community.

The direct flight has been scheduled to fly three times a week and will connect the two nations in just 4 hours. This reinforces the commitment of the Seychelles Tourism Board and its partners towards the Indian market in making it a key tourist source market.

The Air Seychelles direct flight will not only connect the commercial and financial capital of India, but its partnership with Etihad Airways and future code share arrangements with Jet Airways will also connect other key Indian cities to Seychelles via Mumbai. India is one of the fastest-growing outbound tourism markets globally with more than 15 million Indians traveling overseas every year. As the Seychelles Tourism Board is now looking at new source markets, India has the potential to significantly contribute to the increasing numbers of tourist arrivals into Seychelles. The Seychelles Tourist Board opened its India office a little more than a year ago, and since then the feedback from the market has been very encouraging.
