Hospitality start-up Samhi Hotels Pvt. Ltd is in advanced talks to buy a 150-room hotel in central Bangalore for about Rs. 80 crore, less than a week after purchasing a hotel in Ahmedabad from Royal Orchid Hotels for Rs. 67 crore.
The Bangalore hotel is expected to become functional in the next 15-18 months.
Samhi Hotels, formed in early 2011, has raised about $100 million (around Rs.500 crore) from Chicago-based private equity firms Equity International and GTI Capital to build or acquire economy and mid-market hotels in India. It also has a joint venture (JV) with US hotel operator Marriott International Inc. for developing its Fairfield network in India. Marriott has already committed $30 million to its JV with Samhi as per a report in Mint.
The current shareholders are also likely to infuse another $25-30 million in Samhi, Jakhanwala said.
Samhi and its units are developing four hotels that will have a total of 670 rooms. These properties are in Bangalore and Gurgaon—three Fairfields and one Hyatt Place—in the mid-market hotel segment.
