From March 2012 Religare Aviation Company will fly its aircraft from Kangra to Delhi, Chandigarh and Amritsar.
At present only Kingfisher Airlines flies an aircraft from Delhi to Kangra. This monopoly however has often burnt a deep hole in the pocket of the tourist. One ticket on the Kangra Delhi route often cost between Rs. 6000 to Rs. 10,000 and this varies according to tourist season.
Due to the very low frequency of flights from Kangra airport there is no facility for refueling at the airport. Thus the aircrafts that fly to Kangra airport have an extra fuel tank installed and this reduces the seating capacity in the aircraft. Thought the Himachal Pradesh government has given permit for a refueling station at the airport, no companies have come forward with any proposal till now.
Kangra airport is also called as Gaggal airport or Dharamsala- Kangra airport and is located near Kangra city in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. Kangra district located in the Western Himalayas in bounded by the borders of Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir as well as other district of Himachal Pradesh such as Chamba, Una, Mandi, Lahual and Spiti, Harmipur and Kullu.
Tourism is a very important economy for Kangra, especially Dharamsala, which is the district’s headquarters and also the seat of Tibetan leader, Dalai Lama. Kangra Tea is famous world over.
