The Cochin International Airport handled about 4,800 foreign tourists on a single day yesterday.
At least 4,800 tourists landed or departed from the airport yesterday. Around 1,200 tourists landed by chartered flights and an equal number reached by scheduled flights.
This was in addition to around 2,400 foreign tourists who reached Kochi by German Cruise liner Aida Diva and left for various destinations through the airport yesterday, CIAL sources said.
Six chartered flights carrying foreign tourists, mainly from Germany, were operated by Quick Aviation, Air Berlin, Condor and Tuifly from the airport. Flights from Munich via Kuwait, Dusseldorf and Frankfurt also arrived here with tourists, airport sources said. The charter programme is a connecting link enabling air-to-sea/sea-to-air transfer of tourists from the airport.
Elaborate arrangements have been made at immigration counters to expedite the clearance of these tourists.
