Chosen as a Mega Tourist Circuit by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, Ranchi, the State capital of Jharkhand is fast on track to become the newest tourist destination of the eastern region of the country.
Being allotted a surplus fund of `50 crore in the first phase, the State Tourism Department has taken initiatives to develop the capital city.
"The department is keen on developing the religious locations across the State for attracting tourists. On similar lines we will develop Tagore Hill, Pahari Temple, Jagannathpur Temple, Hatia Dam, Kanke Dam and major water-falls located nearby the city under the central fund," said Minister for Tourism, Bimla Pradhan.
Much needed to bring more tourists to Jharkhand, the infrastructure development at prominent tourist-spots will take its pace, after Diwali, informed the Director of Tourism Sidharth Tripathy.
According to statistical-records maintained by the tourism department employees at various tourist-spots in the city including natural water-falls, the records state that more than 1.5 lakh visitors paid a visit to these spots within past six months.
"The infrastructure has come up recently; we need continuous power supply at the tourist-resort built to ensure proper lodging facility for the tourists. From the security point of view, the place is safe enough as tourist-guides stay at such spots for assistance.
We receive cooperation by the local villagers, rest is the department's initiatives," said the Ranchi Deputy Commissioner KK Soan, sharing his experience after a recent visit to Hundru water-falls with his family.
Maoist threat may have given a jolt to the tourism-sector of the State; the department is right on the track for development of infrastructure at the major tourist-spots of the city.
